So the first night the hot water was not working, which was a problem all over the hotel, but we only found this out when checking in from someone else complaining, this went on over night so after a flight i could not shower, i had to ask reception how long this would take and it did not take until the following morning, ok but we could have had some communication about it. Do not use the coffee as they charge for every pod, and the pringles which are not on the list, this was not on the bar sheet or on any information and they asked for the coffee pod money before we went, which i refused, sorry but this should have been advertised, and perhaps few free cups made up for the shower not working the first night, so nothing lost. The hotel was nice and central the staff were pleasant and nothing really to moan about. Breakfast good.

The hotel is in a pedestrian zone. Lots of people walking, street musicians and close to the Metro. Grocery store in mall nearby. The hotel has a roof-top terrace -- a great place to eat take-away and drink wine. The breakfast was one of the best in our travels -- lots to choose from. We booked 2 nights in January, went to Madeira for a week then came back to this hotel for another 3 nights. Our mistake was not booking 4 nights. So if you want to walk out of your hotel in the morning greeted by pedestrians and street musicians instead of vehicles, stay at this hotel. It is what it's name is: Grande!

The hotel is a late 19th century building and is totally charming. The staff were always helpful and kind. Any requests were immediately dealt with and nothing was too much trouble. They also were able to arrange day trips and provided lots of good information. We were in what is termed a cosy room, which may have poor connotations, however we loved the room, which appeared to be recently refurbished and repainted and the bathroom was also lovely. The location is also excellent, being right in the centre of the old town, opening onto a pedestrians only street.

This was an amazing find. I originally booked it because I was surprising my partner and the decor was exactly their favourite kind. But then we were pleasantly surprised how central the location was, the room was far bigger than anticipated, the staff were WONDERFULLY friendly, and the whole hotel was just beautiful. The breakfast buffet was standard quality but with a big variety so we enjoyed that, as well as a late night drink at their bar in one of their many relaxing rooms and lobbies. Really just being there was a fantastic experience.

staff were very helpful and professional. We drove from Lisbon, not knowing that the hotel is on a street that's inaccessible to cars, but the staff were waiting for us , and helped unload our car at the nearby corner, and provided directions to a nearby parking garage. Every time we asked for advice ( restaurant advice, shopping advice, tour advice) staff were always helpful and interested. Breakfast was always tasty and enjoyable in the large dining room.
